About SheCreates

After the “SheCreates… with Spain” event, a market and round table discussion of women artisans, entrepreneurs and artists, which was organized by the Embassy of Spain in Myanmar honoring the International Women Day in 2022 April 2. The idea “rather than struggling alone, standing and moving together is the best way” came up from Ms. Wai Wai Kyaw.

Wai Wai is the owner of Wai Wai’s Noodle Place, a Shan restaurant situated in a heritage building that was once the ‘Guardian Daily’ Newspaper publishing agency established during the colonial era.

Wai Wai then invited all the local artisans of SheCreates with Spain and started the discussion on how to make that idea into reality.

After several discussions and suggestions from experts, core ideas and aims of SheCreates were established and SheCreatesသူမလက်ရာ was formally founded on the 1st of June, 2022.

Currently SheCreates has a network of 100+ growing members of creators. The products from our creators range from wood, bamboo, rattan, textile and fabric, lacquerware, gems and jewelry, recycled material and food & drinks.

The SheCreatesသူမလက်ရာ showroom is based in the same heritage building as Wai Wai’s Noodle Place. The showroom now employs staffs managing the day-to-day operations and the central management committee is formed with the 10 Co-founders working on a voluntary basis. A three-months long internship Program for Myanmar youth was also introduced in June 2023.

• Create a strong network between (with a main focus on) women creators.
• Create a platform which provides support for creators to tackle their difficulties.
• Create a platform where creators can learn from each other while maintaining mutual respect on copyrights and ethics.

• If a platform to learn from each other is created, newer heritage creations will be created while former tradition will be well maintained. (creating new heritage while maintain inheritance)
• If a platform to share each other is created, difficulties and challenges of creators will be more easy to tackle down.
• If a platform provides creators with business solutions, such as selling, marketing, developing and quality control, creators will no longer have to worry about their development & moving forward.

• SheCreatesသူမလက်ရာ provides a physical space for every member to display their products and to connect with customers.
• SheCreatesသူမလက်ရာ provides a visual space for every member to display their products and to connect with customers.
• SheCreatesသူမလက်ရာ promotes its members’ brands & products and actively joining pop-up markets around Yangon and abroad.
• SheCreatesသူမလက်ရာ provides workshops and other learning/ development opportunities to its member creators, local youth and women from disadvantaged communities through workshops, training, internship programs and other training programs.

SheCreatesသူမလက်ရာ strengthens its network not only in Yangon but also the whole country by recruiting creators from all parts of the country. Myanmar is a country with diverse cultural, lingual and ethnic backgrounds. With over 100+ officially recognised ethnic groups, Myanmar is undoubtedly able to provide a rich variety of crafts and products if adequate effort has been implemented. SheCreates aims to bring out and promote the works of the women creators from different regions on an inclusive and non-discriminatory basis.
